Police Offices and Military in Baja California
In Baja California and most of México there are four law enforcement organizations whose agents are allowed to stop traffic or inspect vehicles on highways and roads. The four organizations are the Municipal Police, the State Police, The Federal Police and the Military. The Municipal Police have jurisdiction in cities and on municipal roads. The PGR are state police primarily tasked with under cover work and in some cases traffic inspections. The Federal Police, for the most part, comprise two divisions, the Federal de Caminos (Federales) similar to the Highway Patrol in the United States and the AFI (Agencia Federal de Investigaciones) who are in charge of federal investigations. The military are not really tasked with normal law enforcement but they do maintain checkpoints on many roads and highways in Baja California and they have absolute authority to detain people.
When treated with respect and courtesy all law enforcement agents in Baja California have proven to be very helpful to film crew and production companies. For the most part film productions will interact with municipal police on local issues, Federal de Caminos for production vehicles and closed highways or the military for explosives permits and checkpoints.
